Talk Clean To Me, Baby in 2024

It is a glorious 62 degrees this morning.
For once I’m not even mad at the Kansas wind. I could live with this weather all year long.
I’m at work (shhhh) but it’s Saturday and we close at noon. Yay!!
As long as we keep the craziness out of the clinic, it SHOULD be smooooth sailing.
🙏 veterinary gods, please smile on me today. Please keep all the creatures healthy so I can enjoy this beautiful early fall day 🙏
What I would love to do today when I get home is to open all the windows and scrub the apartment. Obviously I keep up on the basic cleaning but since setting up the camera, I have noticed just how gross the apartment is. I have dust on the walls (how does that even happen), a curtain rod that is so furry it is evolving and the carpet is in dire need of sweeping (we have yet to buy a vacuum).
How did I let it get that bad?!
So, the plan for the day is:
- Dust…everything.
- Sweep carpet.
- Clean the baseboards and tops of the radiators.
- Clean Rivers kennel.
- Take the burners off the stove and clean them.
- Clean filter for the a/c.
- Clean fans.
- Litterbox
- Mop
- Wash and change bedding.
- Maybe put out fall decor.
Whew, I might need more coffee for this little endeavor.
I always keep a pretty clean house (see the roach entry). However, I’m a little bit harder on myself since being with Dana.
His ex-wife had a housekeeper because she was “allergic to dust” and can’t clean the house herself (read: stoned all the time and doesn’t want to do it). I just feel like I have to prove to him that I can keep our home clean without someone else coming in.
Has he ever said anything about the apartment? No. The why? Man, I don’t know. Just my stupid compulsion to prove myself over and over.
Plus, I just like having a clean dwelling. It’s very relaxing.
Dear lawd, can you imagine me having a housekeeper?! Anxiety through the roof! I would be one of those women that cleans before the housekeeper comes. (If you do that, absolutely no judgement. I get it).
I remember my grandmother having a housekeeper when I was young. I can still smell the cleaners the lady used. My memories of her are filled with the smells of Scrubbing Bubbles, Pledge, and the sound of The Price is Right and The Young and the Restless in the background.
My Grandmother would clean before the lady came. I asked her why she did that once. “Ugh, I don’t want her to think I have a dirty house,” was her reply.
That woman. Lol!
My Grandaddy would get up every Saturday morning to empty all the trash cans and then vacuum the entire house, including the stairs. He never vacuumed upstairs unless we were having company. If we were having people come in, Grandmother and I would scour the rooms upstairs then he would follow with the vacuum.
Random memory.
You know, I bet he still does that every Saturday. He’s done it for so long, I bet it’s just part of his routine. Trash, vacuum, take the cars to the station for a fill up. He probably doesn’t take the cars now though since it’s just him.
I do miss being a kiddo. Funny thing is, I knew when I was a kiddo that I would miss it. What was wrong with me?? I never thought, though, that my family would split apart the way it has. I kind of alway knew that I would be an out of state family member but I just thought everything else would stay the same. I thought I would come in for holidays and vacations in the summers. Of course I would stay with my Grandparents.
Never, in a million years, did I think that I wouldn’t be allowed to even know where my parents lived, let alone not be able to stay with them.
What did I do to get such strange parents?
Or that my brother would be living in a camper on my Grandaddys land. Or my Aunt Nancy would be smuggling things out of her own fathers house to sell online.
Ha! They all look down on ME!
Ok, ok, none of the sad stuff. Just the happy memories.
There isn’t anything wrong with that.
Right?
Right.
Alright, it’s almost closing time. Time to check on the boarders and start shutting down machines.
Plus, I think someone wants some snuggs.
Don’t mind the tired Tech in the photo. This is Miss CleoCATra. She is our clinic cat and spends most of her days either on my chest like this or laying on the keyboard.
She is supposed to be catching mice but has been slacking lately.

Alright, time to lock these doors and back out of here very slowly as to disturb the force.
