Two books, two birthdays. in A small but passable life.

In June both Daughter and Grandson had their birthdays, a week apart. Grandson is two. Two years without being sick and two years never having been sent to a daycare. I’d say, so far, so good. At his last check-up he was judged to be doing just fine. A normal, healthy two year old boy. He really liked the Magna-Tiles I’d sent him for his birthday. Daughter said they really helped to slow him down, to get him to sit still. Over an hour the first play session!

I finished reading “To Sleep In A Sea Of Stars” by Christopher Paolini and “Sooley” by John Grisham. That’s eight books read so far this year. Seven were novels. I’ve got two more Grisham and one Stephen King in the pile.

It’s 4pm. It’s 117 degrees outside. 10% humidity. The “cold” water tap is running about 96 degrees right now. I could shower here if I ever needed to. And it feels as if the dishes are rinsed of Dawn better than when using “colder” water. Whatever.

Last Sunday was one of those busier Sundays in which that Sunday was also the last day of the month which meant it was the “one load, once a month, on the last day of the month” laundry day plus “shave and shower Sunday”. I was up early so I was done by 9am.

The front office has resumed accepting checks for the HOA dues. I like writing checks. I wrote a check for the third quarter dues. I handed it over. It cleared in a few days. Simple.

It’s been two months since I’ve been out of the park. I like it here. It’s very, very quiet. Sometimes I go DAYS without talking to another human.

They said this past June was the hottest on record. After last years June hottest on record. I do know it was 93 degrees this morning at 5am. And I know I used $53 of electricity to run both air conditioners last month. Both set on 78.

No rain in months. Only three fires in the state. So far.

Ah, retirement . . .

It’s one of those things that’s cool to say- “Oh, I’m retired.” or “I have a two year old Grandson.” or “Money? I have none. I’m on a fixed income.” or “Debts? I have none.” or perhaps the most unusual, for most people and I never say out loud- “I’ve got plenty of money in savings.”

Anyway, I’ve got the third round of leftover Hamburger Helper to microwave for dinner and an evening of YouTube coming up.
