All The Things in Everyday Ramblings

Delightful to see the sweet pea blooming. This was one I grew from seed and my seedlings are not as robust as they could be so this is a win. But I grew the tomatoes next to it from seed as well. The red dahlias in the background are not mine but they go well in the composition from yesterday morning.

Another head spinning busy week. With the dental appointment, the eye appointment, all the classes, and executive committee meeting, a long call with the credit union to figure out a reconciliation issue for the League and a movie theater movie.

The movie was good. It was a mess, but it was a good mess. Called Sing-Sing, Here is a link to the trailer. It is another movie about a theater program in a prison. This time a fictionalized story of real events with many of the original prisoner actors playing themselves or other roles but with professional actors playing the lead. It pairs extremely well with “our” film, A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Prison, which is a straight documentary.

There are moments of absolute silliness. And a story of a kind of redemption. And all with the backdrop of one pretty brutal environment. Also, I could have used subtitles. I am sure I missed a bit of nuance. Walt was there in the theater with us, and I am most curious how he perceived the movie as it features an actor playing the role of director, something Walt did for 13 years.

I guess I will find out next Saturday as he is having a birthday bash potluck in his back yard with some sort of put together at the last-minute theater production. I expect continued silliness.

Mrs. Sherlock has stepped her feet on the path of actually moving, as opposed to thinking about it, dreading it, wondering about it and trying to get mentally prepared for it. It is a lot. And Mr. Sherlock is struggling with it. As they have co-owned these two buildings in this incredibly desirable spot for almost 50 years the big thing for them is capital gains. The buildings will be torn down, they know that.

They have been offered a nice condo with a yard as a possible interim solution, a place to rent and possibly buy to sink said capital gains into. So, they have a place to go. It is in an exurb, not in town. It will feel a lot safer than where they are now.

Instead of walking yesterday, as she was out cleaning up trash in her neighborhood in the morning, which she does one a month getting her in touch with what is happening out and about around her, we had lunch together.

We ordered the food and as I was getting the napkins and water she wandered off and I found her talking to two adorable little girls visiting from the UK at a nearby table. She does that, chats up strangers, but it turns out one of the women at the table with the girls is a good friend who she hasn’t seen in a while.

Said friend, who I have met, hiked with, back when I first retired, came over later and sat with us. She has had one hip replacement, shoulder surgery, (she showed me the scar) is due for a new knee and a shoulder replacement on the other side, regaled us with her exercise schedule for the week ahead. It was all kind of funny after hanging with the guys who never talk about this stuff.

Visiting with her made Mrs. Sherlock happy and that is what matters. I got to eat while she was talking so it was all good.

This coming week is not quite as jam packed but that doesn’t mean I don’t have things to do. Mrs. Sherlock is not the only person in the last few days that have told me I look tired.

I expect that might have something to do with the nap I ended up taking when I got home. Until I have my week off coming up, I suspect I will be utilizing the services of The Ministry of Naps quite a bit in the intervening time.

Carlo, my designated nap partner, heartily approves.
