September 4

I walk. I walk everywhere I need to go. I don’t need to go to many places. I find stuff when I’m out walking. I found a really nice kitchen trashcan. It has one of those step-on things that flip the lid open. I found a footstool. A nice one covered with grey corduroy. And just a few nights ago I found a chair. A really old, really ugly orange chair. It has carved bird heads on the ends of the arms. Too cool. I found a Superball for Liam. He’ll have a hard time chewing that up. I also found him a stuffed bird and a stuffed Shrek.

The van ran perfect for about a week. Something is wrong with the fuel system. Maybe the fuel filter. Maybe something more serious. So it sits. And I chauffer using the Volvo with really bad brakes when the work shifts overlap. No big deal. Those mornings when Jassy has to be to work at 6am or 7am and then I have to pick Clayton up from his overnight shift at 9am are rather rough when I’d rather sleep in though. No big deal.

I’m still reading the 14th book of the Jordan series. I passed the halfway point today.

Summer is still hanging on. Very warm nights. A little bit of thunderstorms. In another week or so the weather should start cooling off. Predicted highs of 70 something degrees and lows in the 50’s start on the 11th. Perfect temperatures are what I live for.

The wifi isn’t working here at Hardee’s tonight. It’s not working at Burger King either. So I’m writing and listening to my iTunes library. Good enough. I was getting rather irritated with the internet anyway. Same old crap, it seems. Bad news on the rise. Always. And I keep getting so far behind with my favorites on prosebox.

I’m seriously contemplating loading up my backpack and heading out to the woods for at least a month. Why not? The only thing wrong with the plan is that I’d eventually have to return to the city. September 15th to October 15th would be the perfect time to go. I know the whereabouts of a year-round spring in the middle of a 6000 acre Wilderness Area that would be just fine.

Or I could just keep walking the same city sidewalks day after day. Never going anywhere. Just looking for a good place to sit and read.

Jassy is riding with her mother tomorrow to visit her mother’s boyfriend in Leavenworth Federal Prison. This will be Jassy’s first trip to visit. I told her it could be an interesting chapter for her book. As if sitting for eight or so hours listening to what is sure to be boring conversation could be interesting.

Well, shit happens. I got up fairly early this morning and went up to put on a pot of coffee. After I did the dishes and fried three eggs for breakfast, I was sitting in my chair with my first cup of coffee when I noticed Jassy’s wallet lying there on the floor.

I found later that yes, she had got all the way to the prison and found that she did not have her ID. She ended up sitting in the car in the parking lot while her mother was inside for the visiting hours. All that way for nothing but a good nap in the car. Oh well.

I spent the day in my chair reading instead of walking over to the student union to read. No big deal. It should have been the last day in the nineties. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the seventies and raining. We’ll see.

Now . . . this is the weather I’ve been waiting on! The rain woke me at 4:52am this morning. I got up and shut all the windows and used the pee bottle. I went back to bed and stayed there until about 10am. Glorious! It was 67 degrees in the van. Even more glorious.

I was planning on going over to the student union today but it looks like I’ll just stay here with Liam this afternoon. Jassy and Clayton just left to run errands. They may be gone until dinner time. I’ll just sit here and read.

I’ve got less than 400 pages of the book left.
