Time/Temp- 1:30 pm, sunny Monday, up late, slept late, left a bunch of notes, may have shot my wad, but let’s just see.
Wearing - pretty much what I was wearing the last time, navy sweats, CG (cremation garment), no socks. I have a load of washed clothes in the washer and I need to take them out to the clotheslines, Through the window it looks like a really good drying day.
Watching - between midnight and 5 am, my prime viewing time when internet is lightly used, I watched a really great Playhouse 90 on youtube. It was called “Imortality”, and it was about a scientist played by Lee J. Cobb who is dying of lieukemia and the computer specialist who wants to transfer his knowledge and personality to a computer. The computer guy is played by Kenneth Haigh - an English actor I’d never heard of. The scientist has a lovely family and he has his work with the space program (circa late 1950’s- think of that). Michael Landon plays his son and he’s very good. His daughter is played by Patty McCormack. There is conflict because he and his family don’t want the brain transfer scientist using the man’s remaining time on a project that seems iffy. Two scene in the live broadcast are worth watching - one when the dying man goes to a gathering of scientists explaining the difficulties in the space program and he reconciles them on a chalk board of math symbols.... and another when there is a party in his house and he plays piano and his daughter sings jazz. The son is destroyed at the idea of the loss of his father and he asks his sister how she can handle it and she says she is like her father so she can handle it if he can. The playwright’s name was not familiar. I watched the begining of another Playhouse 90, this one written by Twilight Zon’s Rod Serling about a unsuccessful writer played by Art Carney who is supported by an agent played by Jack Klugman. Carney’s character gets success and then another hotshot agent lures him away from Klugman. It’s very good too - play is called “Velvet Alley” and was broadcast live in January 1959. I realized I’d seen it a year or so ago on youtube and it was painful to watch the betrayal and I didin’t watch it again last night. The writer’s family and the scientist’s family’s were so smart and loving and supportive - it seemed like another time and of course it was. There is a scene where the successful play is being ended in the tv control room that looks very real, and then within minutes positive reviews come in by phone, almost instant response to the quality of the show, making Carney a star.
Reading - not much. I have a Candace Bushnell - the ‘Sex and the Sity ‘ writer- novel called One Fifth Avenue, came out 2008, library discard, nothing very great. About the residents in a plush NYC apartment building, I didn’t care what happened.
Eating - cheese and crackers and DP. Might have bacon and eggs a little later, if I ge the frying pan washed.
Pets-Lib is snoring on the floor. She likes to take Jim’s chore gloves and either chew or hide them. Butt is sort of adjusting to the house. He left dirty foot tracks on the sink counter. Jim cleaned them up.
Farming- no new developments on with combine or barn. Jim asked the neighbor who told him about the combine fixer to see if he coul get him moving. Jim is supposed to use the combine to open up the corn fields of the same neighbor.... Opeining up means to make roads in the field. The combine cuts a path in front of it - the neighbor’s corn picker picks off to the side - so he would have to run over corn to pick it if the combine hadn’t gone through first. I could draw a diagram.
Filosophy - I was told filosophy might be spelled filosofy. I think that’s a good idea. I’ll adjust my template.
Memories- I remember serious walking. I would walk home from work. I would walk my loop around the gravel roads. I would walk in the mornings with my sisterinlaw and Gracie. I would walk up and down my cellar steps. All were great things to do. They proved something about myself to myself. I miss them. I am still capable - maybe not that capable but still fairly capable. Today would be a beautiful day.
Status - I’m not sure what I mean by status. I might change this title to something else. Right now. Right here. I’m me. You’re you. The world is our bowl of cherries. So what if we have to discard the stems and pits? Yup, so what.
