My part of the city got wrecked by a big hailstorm. I had just started to lift some weights, while I was at home, when it started to sound really bad outside. I grabbed by phone once I saw it hailing very violently and went to my balcony. The hail was the size of grapes and it was coming down very hard. Then it all stopped falling down and started blowing sideways into the building. I thought we were in a tornado. I’ve experienced that before. I was so panicked. I couldn’t see the trees in front of my balcony it was coming down that hard. The video I was recorded was kind of funny. You can see the moment when it all starts blowing into the building and a POV of me running away scared.
I heard screaming so I changed quickly and stepped outside and it was my neighbour. She was trying to save her flowers. She was just screaming in rage. She did get cut up from the hail.
It was over pretty quick. My neighbour Jill was in the hallways and doesn’t come out for anything. She told me that there trees were down on the other side. She was right. I went out to check on Kim, my neighbour below and we went for a walk around the block and we actually had it pretty good. The roof of all our cars are pretty dented though. Other suites had broken windows. Trees were down. The pool was just wrecked. The hail cracked my bedroom window and managed to tear holes into the screen. My roommates room, I didn’t think to go in there to close her window. The hail managed to get in across her whole room. Broke right through the screen. Maybe I’ll share photos tomorrow.
I found a dead bird on my step buried in the hailstones. The tree wasn’t enough shelter. The hail tore it apart. After the storm was gone, the birds had darkened the sky a bit. Did they fly above it? It was creepy. I could have helped the neighbours clean up as they had it far worse and they’re mostly seniors but… I helped myself to some gin and invited Kim over. First I buried that little bird and placed a flower on its grave. The flower was on the step beside him.
Today wasn’t too special otherwise. I mean, I was shaking in fear during that moment. I didn’t know if the building was coming down on me. I called my grandmother who lives on the other side of the river and she was okay and she said the storm was just was fine on her end. I called my sister who lives out in the south and it hadn’t hit her yet. It eventually did and it flooded her basement and she lost power but there wasn’t hail like I had. I called my mother who isn’t far from me at all and she didn’t get any hail. So it was just my neighbourhood. The street was absolutely flooded.
I love my building. I really do. It’s got character. It’s an old building complex with old witchy vibes. It’s full of seniors who’ve all made it their own. Lots of characters here as well.
Work felt like a proper work day. Tomorrow is finally payday. It hit me that I just have a temp position. It was when Claudia asked me if I was working tomorrow and I told her that I was full-time. The blew her mind. Then I told her that I was just on a temp contract to help get them through the massive project coming up. She got devastated at the thought of me leaving. It expires in February and they will review at that time. 9 out of 10 times it becomes permanent. We are all confident about it. I just had to remind myself here that I am not out of the woods yet. Though, my new supervisor really wants to invest in me so I will talk to her tomorrow. Bring it on. Invest away. I’ll drive the trucks. I’ll learn how to wire. Whatever.
I think I’m developing a bromance with Marcello on my team also. I miss my bromance with Mel from my last team. Blah!
Anyway, tomorrow is Friday. TGIF. It’s also payday. I still feel shaken up but I don’t calm down as quickly as most people. The gin helped.
