August Bank Holiday is here, and all over the country, Perranporth is very busy I’ve been down there, the Co-op had there huge lorry parked along the entry, that means I couldn’t get in for cars coming out, then I couldn’t get out for cars coming in; or was it all the other way about!

In side the Co-op there seemed to be more staff stocking the shelves than people empting, I was told to perches a crusty loaf, a sliced loaf and a pack of onion begets. Only I couldn’t get to the onion begets for a lady member of staff with her trolley, she was a small grey haired lady and just right for stocking those low shelves where the bread’s are kept, I asked her if there wear any onion begets, with a smile she reached behind her trolley and pulled out a fresh pack for me; I find the staff at the Co-op a good group.

Of course I didn’t use the main road through Perranporth – it’s bank holiday weekend! The road past the back car park wasn’t clear, another huge lorry was delivering to a hotel and it was parked – perhaps just stopped – in front of the entry – exit of the car park, and there were cars trying to get in and out, and also hopping to drive past one way or the other.

Ziggy’s behaviour class has been cancelled today, it seems every else except Ziggy wasn’t going, so we have a day to our selves; but we don’t far on a bank holiday weekend – there are a lot of people who do! On Thursday I didn’t take a camera with my to the dogs agility class, the weather didn’t look good, and using a camera with one hand has limitations, so as I set in my folding chair with Ziggy in hand I looked up at a strange sounding aircraft, it was a good way off but coming my way.

Adjusting my glasses – they slip down a little – I thought I could see two main wings, there are not many biplanes flying about except at air shows, I knew what it was; a De Havilland Dragon Rapide, a mid 1930’s short haul passenger airliner and 731 were built.

The are a few still flying here and there round the world, all will have had an interesting life, all in the county in 1939 were taken over by the RAF. There two Rapid’s in the country that travel round in the summer giving pleasure flights, I know one spends time in North Wales, they fly round Anglesey; if I were up there I would like to take a aerial tour round the island!

It was good to watch an airliner from the early years of passenger flight, to get a descent image I would have needed my DSLR camera with a telephoto lens; it wouldn’t have worked out with Ziggy in one had.
