I'm totally into Asian dramas right now in Age 36

I have been spending my screen time watching Asian dramas. Mostly on Netflix. I am Mexican so for me life was about Telenovelas. Those were my bread and butter! With villains, sexy men that saved the day, and women who first started out as damsels in distress, but then would find their own worth! It was incredible! The last “good” one that I watched was Tres Veces Ana. I really like Angelique Boyer’s acting. But then they started to change the recipe of novelas.

They no longer told these sweet stories. They got more violent, there was more sex, and less wholesome plot. So I began to turn away from them. This was back in 2016. Then a coworker of mine, Susan, told me to try K dramas (Korean dramas). I watched Angel Eyes first....and I was hooked. Now I am starting to watch Chinese dramas. The one I am currently on is Hidden Love.

I think the reason why I got into these is for many reasons really. I like that they are simple. They give so much substance to all of their characters, even their side characters. You really learn to care for them or hate them or whatever they write. Second, there little to no political anything in them. Here in the states it seems that everyone is trying to make a statement through everything watched.

Snow White hasn’t even released and already the press for that just shows that its not just a visual story you can get lost in. No. There has to be a message to every thing that comes out. But there doesn’t does there? We can have shows and movies that take us away from our own lives for a little while without any agenda behind it.

That makes these Asian dramas so wonderful. Because they really do whisk me away. Thank heaven for subtitles! Are they a bit annoying? Sure, but you get used to it. I love truly love the wholesome aspect to them. The writing is superb. And the acting....goodness the acting is amazing. I may not understand the language and I may be reading what is going in, but the facial reactions and the subtle sighs and breaths, and shoulder movements…its all so captivating.

Is it just me?
