Monk on in the background.

Mom slept all day so I took a cue from her and slept most of the evening. Got up around eight-ish. Grilled the steaks, roasted the asparagus and tossed the Caesar salad. Between flips of the steaks I went out front and shot off…well, lit the sparkle shower fireworks. It was fun but I didn’t have many. However the rest of the neighborhood made up for it.

The dinner was delicious however mom only ate part of her steak, half of the asparagus and she hates Caesar salad. (Originally got the salad to make wraps.) She’s crashed out currently on her sofa. Wish I could do something for her. She’s been sick at her stomach since Saturday. 🤷‍♂️

I’m looking forward to group this morning. I think I’m going to start writing about what subjects we cover in them. Case in point, Monday we got combined with another group. Our counselor had some dental work done and was still in pain. The topic of this group was the serenity prayer, breaking it down line by line and finding the deeper meaning. The three guys in that regular group were mum on basically everything so a lady from my group and I pretty much lead the whole damn thing in participation.

Yeah yeah, I know I’m an atheist and talking about prayer. To me, the serenity prayer is…asking for a moment of patience. Like in the film Evan Almighty where Morgan Freeman is talking to the wife character, when you ask for patience or are you granted a moment to be patient. Do you get wisdom or a moment to listen, learn and gain said wisdom?

Back in 2012 when I was all in on AA I had the 24 hour chip that that the serenity prayer etched on it. Before I would clock in at the grocery store I would hold that thing tight in my hand, close my eyes and whisper the prayer to myself. I also brought up about symbolism. How that AA chip was a symbol of my sobriety because it meant something to me. Then I brought up an old episode of Cheer’s where Sam Malone gave his lucky bottle cap to a MLB friend as a charm. The guy ends up winning his game and keeping the bottle cap. It’s later revealed Sam never won a game with the bottle cap but actually instead it was the cap off of the last bottle of beer he drank when he decided to get sober. See, symbolism.

Just some food for thought.
