I Get Lonely by Janet in The Song Remembers When

Really, any of the songs from The Velvet Rope are among my favorite songs. I remember seeing that album cover in advertisements in the mall and not being able to figure out who it was. I suppose the reason to post this now is because I’m suddenly reminded of the time when my musical tastes were much more diverse. That’s not to say that my music isn’t diverse, it is, but lately I’ve become much more closed-off to new types of music. I suppose it’s the one facet in my life in which you could declare I am becoming an old man. But there was a time that I went beyond my little alt-rock world and embraced rap, R&B and other forms of music outside my sphere. I mean, my enjoyment of Janet Jackson predates my obsessions with Stevie Nick or Madonna.

Sometimes I use music to get back to a place before I started over-complicating things… which I think is why I’ve primarily been listening to the same music I listened to when I was 14.
