The Milwaukee took the track out of our cornfield around 1970. Historian Jim says they contracted to have it taken out, someone got hurt, something fell on him, and he was paralyzed. The contractor went out of business and the Milwaukee Road had to finished taking it out. The contractor had already taken the rails so the Milwaukee had to do it by truck = approaching from the county roads. My dad was interested in the whole operation. He collected those plates that hold the rails to the ties, and the little jar of copper nails with the years the ties were replaced.
