I'll never be pure enough
to join the good-good guys
I'll never be
confident enough to join the bad
I've never been comfortable
on either side
of any line
in-between
is all I've ever had
that's how I do it

I've always been ill at ease
in a button-down shirt
the collar chafes
the stitches hurt
I've never liked myself
very much
I need someone who can love me
for the both of us
that's how I do it

I save my lotto tickets for months
to compile the little odds
win a couple of two dollar draws
pretend I am loved by the gods
that's how I do it
