Jan 2, 2000 my friend Robert Bieseigel introduced me to the writing community Open Diary. His diary was called Bikeatriver. When my home burned to the ground the following January third he and his wife "Melon" gave me a safe place to live for a short time. We became dear friends and then neighbors. "Bike", as he was known to his friends, passed away of cancer at his home Saturday, July 19, 2014 in Nobleton, FL.

Bike was a person who touched many people's lives. Some loved him, some thought he was a crabby old man. He was crabby for show only and had a heart of gold, truly he was a marshmallow of a man.

There was a time we traveled a few hours to visit a friend who is extremely agoraphobic (terrified to leave his house). Bike gave him the shirt off his back because the man had no shirts. He was always doing little kindnesses. Anyone who knew him at one time or another received a post card, book or some flea market oddity of personal interest to them in the post from Bike. I think "gifting" in this way was his greatest pleasure in life.

A extensively read, intelligent, curious man, Master Gardener, gatherer of thousands of curiosities, father, husband and person of great notoriety, Bob will be missed by many. His suffering has ended. Surviving Bob is his wife "Melon", two sons, Jake and Fritz, both of Florida, a step-daughter and her three daughters.

Today his body was cremated and there were no services. Open Diary heaven has gained another of our friends, many who were his friends and will be there happily welcoming him. May he rest in peace.

Goodbye my friend.
