Two more items. in A small but passable life.

For decades I’ve had two items on my “wish list”. I finally pulled the trigger and bought them. I bought the Silva Ranger 2.0 compass from Amazon for $57.77 and a Leatherman Wave+ from REI for $105.28, using a $25.23 credit. The REI order arrived in two days. The Amazon order took a week for delivery, arriving in my mailbox yesterday.

The weather has been very cool the past week. It was 77 degrees last Sunday and only in the high fifties every day since and today. It is supposed to be in the mid-seventies this weekend, back to normal temps.

My Instacart grocery order yesterday was $84.91. For a two week list. The highest it ever was, buying the usual items. The price for a big jar of Miracle Whip was $6.99! And I finally broke down and bought a dozen eggs because I needed two for my meatloaf last night. Over $5 a dozen! Crazy.

I finally got to H&R Block to get the 2021 Fed filed to retrieve the $900-and-something that the IRS nabbed when I cashed out one of Mom’s retirement accounts as her executor. It only cost me $99 to do that. And she said starting this year (when I turn 65) I’ll be able to get back my property taxes every year. Even though I don’t make enough income to even have to file. Good to know. $99 to retrieve nearly four hundred? I guess it is what it is.

It is suggested I get online to the website to figure out all this Medicare crap. Because, apparently, if one doesn’t sign up when required one may be fucked for more money later. It has been several decades since I’ve seen a doctor (1988? 89? some kind of respiratory bug that last time), not counting workplace injuries (4 or 5?). I had the STD screening (all negative) and blood workup (all good) in the summer of 2012. And I had that Life Line Screening last year (all good). So I’m not planning on getting on the modern medical merry-go-round. Fuck that bullshit. If I ever end up in the ER it’ll be because someone scooped me up unconscious from somewhere, not from me being stupid enough to walk into one.
