Who Needs Lifetime TV? in Everyday Ramblings

Sammy sure is spending a lot of time in his fort lately. But he is still coming out to snuggle and purr in his wheezy old man way. Wow, he just took his evening yowly toy back into his fort. He has never done that before.
These are the hollyhocks I mentioned in my last post. This picture absolutely does not do the beautiful maroon color justice. I am not sure which is more real, what the camera captures or the eye sees but they are breathtaking in a wild parking strip unexpected sort of way.
Just after I took this we had a summer rainsquall. I had to run up on a porch to avoid getting soaked. It was an old house converted into offices and there are these extravagant delphiniums out front. I have tried getting an interesting shot of them for about three years. They are just too…something. The color is nice though.
Tomorrow is the end of our fiscal year and I have to work with concentrated effort to get done what I need to. There were a number of folks working this weekend but not in my area.
I had a lovely class today. My private student has made remarkable progress lately. I love seeing her get stronger and today we talked about building muscle strength to support her lower back in spite of the fact that she is overweight. She totally gets that and even more so after the spasms she had earlier in the month. And I love the fact that we can talk about her body as it is, and work with it exactly as it is. That is all we have. The body we have been given. With all its unique quirks.
She told me that some women she works with are taking a yoga class and she asked them about it and the teacher is not doing a thing about keeping their necks, in particular, safe. I am a big fan of safe healthy happy necks. :) She works really hard and one of the things we do when we are making physical effort is we involve our necks even though we don’t know we are doing it.
So I spend a lot of time looking at what the necks in the room are doing.
I do that out on the street too. I am fascinated by the way people walk. I think that is the pony in me. Look at these two foots! Ha. But what I have been noticing lately is tight lower backs that tilt the pelvis ever so slightly and the hips back so one’s derriere looks hitched up.
I was watching a man, in his fifties, healthy weight walking across the Hawthorne Bridge on Friday and his lower back looked so tight to me. Eek. He was moving, much faster than me. And carrying a heavy gym bag.
We are so into driving ourselves and at the same time indulging ourselves. Silly Americans. Silly Americans, often in a lot of pain.
Speaking of pain, I am having my dental surgery extravaganza on Wednesday morning. Kes and Most Honorable are coming up tomorrow night and I am taking them out to dinner because they picked up a dehumidifier for me. I had borrowed theirs and noticed a big difference in house allergens here in puddletown so I decided to splurge and get one of my own. I am looking forward to it.
There is an ongoing transition on the cancer ward. Two new kids with the same diagnosis, in for the long hall. This type of life changing caregiving is a learning experience for the families and I am so honored to witness and support them during this unbelievably difficult time. I was talking to one of the dads this last week and he said, referring to his four-year-old son, “He’s having a good day, I want to be with him…”
That goes straight to the heart. Who needs Lifetime Television anyway?
Our real worlds are chock full of both pathos and joy. And all the boring stuff in between.

It IS interesting to watch people walk. I have mentioned before that I can recognize most locals here by their walk, from behind, or from too far in front to see features. AND especially in the winter when those out walking are all bundled up.
And yes, I find when I hurry, I tense up and the way my legs move, arms move, and the tightening of a lot of muscles that are usually loose makes it very uncomfortable. So, I am mostly figuring I will get there when I get there and if it is too late, well, so it goes.
I do not envy you the dental surgery extravaganza. All that I had done back in Wichita was quite a bit, pulled 3 teeth in one day, etc. but surprisingly I wasn't in a lot of pain--at least not as much as I was expecting. But the anesthesia and the whole surgery does take it out of you so be kind to yourself, curl up with Sammy and take a break.

glad your class today went so well....and good luck for the dentistry. I have that same colour hollyhocks that will bloom in our summer. Yes often photos show colours slightly different to what the eyes see, such a shame. Hugs to you, and Sammy. p

What a great teacher you are. Your students are lucky as you to be learning so much about life from them.
I wish Sammy well and hope you are doing with your fiscal chores.

So much love and care in this entry. I like your observation about Americans-where are we going?

I hope all the fiscal year stuff went well - our budget person was dealing with that last week. It is never fun. The hollyhocks are so pretty. And your private student is so lucky to have you!
Ear scritches to Sammy!

I'm very sorry I have been neglectful for so long and missed all this. Still not really focussed, but I'll be back. May you have peace and safety, happiness and ease.
