The Long Way Around in Today

I have never been the charismatic, charming guy. In my younger days, when I tried to be that guy, I would fail and people would avoid me. I learned to keep my head down and build relationships one day at a time in bits and pieces.

My motives never changed and they were always generally straight, but it helped me avoid people’s perception of my motives and the unnecessary interference of misunderstood interactions.

This has been going on for years, slowly building, slowly working, interacting, helping others, getting to know people.

Now something amazing is happening. All those relationships are now back. I have never been one to call in a favor. I don’t expect people to scratch my back. I don’t like when people cut me slack or go out of their way. My view has always been simple: Do your job.

Somehow that has created a network of people who will unexpectedly facilitate me. I can pick up a phone and get anything I need. It is as wonderful as it is surprising and I’m a little bit speechless.
