I feel a little better about my physics class now that I remember about Khan academy. It’s a great resource. I stumbled upon it on accident while looking for a simple definition and it brought me to everything I missed in the second class. My teacher is not the most structured or most articulate… or perhaps I’m just too needy? So far this has filled in those knowledge gaps that I was missing. I didn’t understand the words and/or their definition, and it was a struggle to understand the formulas because I didn’t understand the meanings behind them but now I do.
I can translate the formulas into English for myself, which I couldn’t do prior. By that, I mean that I can read it out in words. I understand that math is communicative but it’s just not my first language. Basically, I’m going to go into class tonight with a stronger understanding of the principles but when it comes to the application of it I will still struggle a bit. That will take practice. We are getting our first assignment today which will be graded so I am hoping that I perform well. I will have a week to complete it so I better. I will contact the math tutor and get some help with the algebra. I understand the gist of it but everybody goes faster than I do so it is hard to keep up. I’m out of touch. It’s simple, just isolate variables with reverse operations. I need to play around with it. The math tutor is my previous math teacher. She will make it all make sense for me, I know it.
I felt defeated and wanted to give up when I started my math course last semester. I toughed it out. I can do it with this one, I hope. It’s just so overwhelming because a) I jumped into grade 12 physics without a grade 11. b) I’m aware that what we are currently learning is just the kid stuff and c) math and I are not friends and this is a math-heavy course. At least I will be able to calculate the velocity of my downward spiral. A downward spiral is a vector quantity, right? Blah. Back to it, I guess.
