My ongoing obsession. in The Big, Blue House, year one.

A friend in Denmark commented on a video clip I put on Facebook from VR Chat. He asked, “What’s it about?” He doesn’t play video games, and while his English is fabulous, he doesn’t understand some of the more nuanced words or phrases.

So how do I answer that? It’s not a game exactly, but nor is it just a 3D chat room. There are at least hundreds of game worlds. RPGs, mazes, laser tag, racing, escape rooms, etc.

The primary purpose of the thing is to meet people, but thus far all I’ve been doing is exploring. “World hopping” they call it. My endless search for the best public avatars. I discovered yesterday that you can “start a new instance” and set it to “invite only” any time you go to another world, so you never have see anybody. Which is great when you’re dead tired from doing that all day and lack the energy to talk, because you’re completely obsessed. lol

It’s controlled chaos. A completely user-built, interconnected web of tens of thousands of places and things to see and do. Allow me to be cringe: It’s glorious in its sheer size, scope, and variety.

And of course I want nothing more than to infodump about it, like I just did a little of here, but for someone whose understanding of English isn’t the most polished, and who hasn’t played MMOs, I don’t know how much of that he would understand.

I need a couple more hours sleep. Maybe I’ll have some clarity after that.
