There's fuck-all on TV tonight. Nothing but infomercials, but that's nothing unusual for this time of night (3am). Usually Wimbledon is on and I'd be watching that, but that's not even on. I'm worried that it'll only be shown on Foxtel all of next week, because Channel 7 kept going on about "contractual obligations" which just annoys me. Clearly we don't have cable tv here, or else I wouldn't be complaining :) So I turn to ABC and there's this fascinating documentary about a part of Aboriginal history. It's called "The extraordinary tale of William Buckley," who was an English castaway in Van-Diemens Land (now Tasmania) who made friends with the Aborigines and later on prevented violence between the English settlers and the Aboriginals. It's still on as I'm typing, but it's pretty fascinating learning about all this stuff around 185 years ago. At least it's something to watch. Oh, well there you go, it just finished. Diseases wiped out a lot of the Aboriginal population back in the 1800's. Pretty sad. Growing up, I have met a lot of aboriginals however, mostly living in remote areas as my parents were driving through. I remember most of them from western New South Wales and also some up in Cooktown. I remember them all seeming very friendly, or maybe it was more-so them continuing on with their own thing and us with ours. My brother's ex-wife is an Aboriginal woman. She's pretty cool from what I know of her. So I guess that means most of my nephews and nieces are partly as well. I don't like to talk about the topic overly too much, mainly because I feel I'm too ignorant about their culture and all their tribes, so it's fascinating when I come across programs like the one I just watched to help educate me, even if it's only a little more. There's a whole other world going on out there.
I dunno what's going on with my mobile internet. When I first started it, it would be on 4G, but I haven't had it show that in a long time. Maybe it's a fair-use policy or something I've breached? But I only get 500mb a day to use. I think I've only gone over it once since I had it, but it's working out pretty handy for me so far. I can still do what I want to do with it and that's the main thing.
I'm doing another fairly big week at work this week, but I probably won't be able to be called in on my nights off this week. It was amazing to have tonight off, since I'd worked so much more than usual this week and I also have Sundays as a day off from gym, so it's a complete 'me' day. I did my shopping and spent a certain amount and I should now qualify for a Wish gift card, which always comes in handy. I only just noticed by accident that the bottom of my receipt started that I'd also qualified to save $10 off my next shop, so it's just as well I looked at that - that'll be like four free items!
I also bought a birthday present for Vish, as it's his b'day on Tuesday and that's why I can't be called into work because I'll be at his. I looked around for a few gifts he might like but couldn't really find anything perfect. I've still got a day to have a look but I might have another look around on Tuesday before I have to head over there, but for now I did buy him something, even if he doesn't like it. He's used to big-name brands and whatnot and what I've got him certainly isn't that haha. I do feel like I've found the perfect card for him though, as we call each other 'Sistahs' all the time. I was almost going to buy a barbie doll with a unicorn doll as a joke present as well, but couldn't justify spending $58 on just that.
