I recall when the news about Jimmy Savile came out, I wasn’t surprised some how, it seemed a part of the puzzle! Rolf Harris was quite the reverse, he always came over as a well rounded individual, and the truth only broke down the image we had of him bit by bit; but now we know ……
Perhaps victims will be listened to now, there were allegations made to the Police about Savile as far back as the sixties, none were believed all those years. People in the BBC turned away from the truth, the one part of the BBC closed their doors to Savile, he was never allowed near the ‘BBC’s Children in Need’ The man who organized the event had heard to many whispers, and always barred Savile.
Looking at these events, considering just how long these abhorrent attacks on women and children went un-believed; we have to ask why.

I was really shocked about Rolf Harris. He always seemed like a caring human being. I was still hoping it wasn't true when the verdict came in.
As to people not listening in the past, well things were different. I'm not saying it was considered OK but people were reluctant to get involved. I remember my mother telling me not to go to a friends house, years later she explained that it was common knowledge that the father was sleeping with the daughter. If it was common knowledge why didn't someone do something?

We live in a society of "innocent until proven guilty". Those are our convictions.

With Rolf's celebrity status and the bias in favour of innocence, Rolf's victims must have been very strong.

like you, I wasn't surprised about Jimmy Saville, but the Rolf Harris saga has been quite a shock for sure. I always admired his talents as many other did too, and he came across quite decent. It must have many people doubting their own opinions. The problem has long been one of women not being heard, especially abused women and children.....I struggled with that myself for decades and even when finally telling someone my story I was barely believed. Its no wonder such horrors continue to happen. Once heard and validated then people can heal, but not until. I feel sorry for his wife and daughter who are also victims. What a mess! hugs p
