New Foobs in The Stuff That's Not Interesting But Is The Most Interesting Stuff I'll Write

I’ve been really disconnected from music these last couple of months, but something funny happened. In West Hollywood, FUBAR closed. The Foobs (as we called it) was where I spent most of my time in LA as a wayward youth, and there was a hug outpouring of grief; it was as if someone real had died instead of just a business closing. Of course, the truth is that FUBAR closed early in 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, it just never reopened and was finally confirmed DOA.
The night that it closed, I resolved myself. I had stumbled upon a bar here in Bangkok called FUBAR (by the way, if you’re wondering, it’s an acronym for Fucked Up Beyond All Repair), but I was pretty sure it would bear little resemblance to WeHo FUBAR. I was doubtful that there would be the raunchiest go-go dancers in the city or a big dick contest (I won it three times in WeHo), but that night I was just sad enough to try to figure out what the new FUBAR was.
It was actually wonderful. It’s a live music venue that is at least 10 times larger than the West Hollywood FUBAR and it’s not far from Khao San Road, which means it’s friendly to tourists but because of the rock music aspect, they don’t overwhelm the entire experience like they do at some of the establishments on the boulevard.
There, as I listened to the music, I realized that I love rock music more than almost anything. So I started listening to it again and I remembered some really great music. I haven’t listened to any music in months, but I dug out my headphones and found myself back into a groove.
