cigarettes and chocolate milk in poetry

I hadn’t told her
that I’d entered
a contest for a
show that she
would’ve liked

I’d forgotten
all about it
a week later
when I checked
my burner e-mail
that I use for things
like coupons and contests
and found out that I won

I’m not going
I’m gonna treat it like
I just forgot to check that e-mail
I mean, I’ve already seen
Rufus Wainwright play
two serious girlfriends ago
it’s a very good show but

not good enough to
rehash this in my head so soon
not even for free
gotta just move on
like always, it seems
