Love the buttery light from Tuesday here on the rose on this gloomy morning.
Thanks for all your support. The facilitator of the book group thought my essay had enough interest to send out to the whole group. It is out there in the world now.
A direct response that went out to the whole group was…” Wow. Thank you so much for sharing that, Noko. So much beauty and insight. An imprint on a soul.”
Later the same person posted a longer note telling a story about mentoring a fatherless boy who experienced a fair amount of trauma growing up and over time concluded that they were in fact, a woman. And then severe depression hit that has been resistant to treatment. Apparently, this individual has barely left their room for a few years and has expressed suicidal ideation.
He sent her my essay thinking that it might encourage the suffering individual to seek a therapeutic experience with psylocibin, which is legal here. He said the individual liked and admired my essay.
My internal response to this is…Yikes!
I guess writing a personal essay about a private experience with a hallucinogenic substance from a literary and poetic point of view when I was 14 could be seen as an endorsement of the use of same in a supportive medical environment currently.
Whoa. Or at least interpreted that way.
The next response was from another person in the group…” Each of your stories and their tender expressions has moved me to tears. So poignant, compassionate and life affirming. I have a friend in Portland who is very active in this organization (Sorry, the name eludes me). Please let me know if you’d like me to reach out to her.”
When we put stuff out in the world…
We’ll see in a few weeks if the “initiation” into the group worked but internally I will say the experience has been quite the ride.
