Crystal Clear in Current Events

I took my mother to Jacobs Trading today. It’s an esoteric shop that sells supplies. Crystals in particular. My mother has a sudden interest in healing crystals and that is something I want to support. I bought her a blend of essential oils. She bought herself some stones. She shared a lot of her knowledge about the crystals we were looking at. I have a lot to learn.

She can talk a lot and say nothing at the same time. Lately, she has had a lot to say. She is opening up to me about her anxiety and depression. Those are new to her. She knows I will understand, she watched me live with it my whole life. I have her full attention whenever I give insight and advice. She mentioned that she has a counsellor, I didn’t want to pry into that. She was reluctant about it the last time it came up. Reluctant about getting one I should say. I’m glad she has reached out for some guidance.

She also opened up about her relationship with her boyfriend. She didn’t say a lot but I know how to read between the lines. I can see that she is on a journey, one where she is expanding and he is not. They are growing apart, in that sense. I don’t think she will leave him but it wouldn’t surprise me if she did.

My mother is experiencing what the new agers call “a spiritual awakening.” It’s probably just a midlife crisis. Maybe a mix of both. It’s in the starting stages, she needs guidance. She needs to develop her metacognition and how to give her feelings some context.

While I was at the shop I got inspired about what I am going to buy my niece for her birthday. Her birthday is in August, I have time. That shop has a wand and a modern witches hat that I can get for my niece. Whenever we go out for walks we collect flowers so that she can make potions. I will get her a pestle and mortar, a cauldron and some glass jars. She’s going to love it. I want to nurture this curiosity she has about witchcraft.
