Self-esteem, upon meeting someone entirely new, he is not concerned with what they think of him but rather with finding out what he thinks of them. His social need for psychological visibility can only be met by people who hold and embody similar value. Therefore, the degree to which he can elevate via admiration, and be admired, depends on his accurate perception and judgement of a new stranger’s values.
