For those who read me assiduously here is the next instalment of the Rory McIlroy saga - see entry about best time to split - he was down at the beginning of the week when he made the decision to call the marriage , and the relationship off - and then on Sunday afternoon he played wonderful golf to come back to win the PGA Championship by a stroke OK - so how do you explain that? I think it demonstrates his single mindedness when it come to his sport - his ability to block out anything else when confident of his own abilities. Like many sportsman success is as much about self-belief as skill - and clearly McIlroy has both in spades. Let's hope his ex-fiance can come up trumps in her tennis tournaments.
And if you get a chance see Quirke, the crime series which started on BBC last night - two more to come. The programmes are based on the novels by Benjamin Black (the alter ego of the Irish novelist John Banville) about a pathologits in Dublin in the 1950s and his personal and professional dilemmas. With Gabriel Byrne looking just right in the title role and a strong script and cast it recreates the atmosphere of 1950s Dublin - and raises fundamental moral issues which have been exposed in recent years about the role of religious bodies in that society. I am sure it will br seen in the USA since it has as US link in the first story - great pics of the Massachusetts coast - and plenty for the Irish audience in the US to latch on to. Also read the novels - starting with Christine Falls
That is the end of the advert! Now for something completely different
