It’s Veterans Day today. It’s a big deal in this Navy town. There’s Fleet Week. Open ships at the Broadway Pier. Parades too. Lots of fuss even up at Fort Rosecrans with it’s acres of newly aligned grave markers.

To make it worse, both G and I are Army. I admit, I was the worst hire the military ever had. They put me and my math learning disability in the Finance Corps. There have been several really good benefits of my joining the military though. The GI Bill was one. It took me eight years to graduate college, but I did it in the end. The GI Bill stuck with me through many of those years.

They will bury me too. Not at Fort Rosecrans high above the ocean, where I would prefer to go, but in Miramar up on a hot dry mesa. Rosecrans is full. George will be with me. It’s a great money saver. Makes me laugh.

There are many like me here on the high point. We didn’t go to war, but we admire and support those that did. Some of us pushed paper around. My father did during WWII. George pushed punch cards. I pushed payroll sheets and all their copies often wrong.
