Thanksgiving in Help Me Please

It seems to me each and every year that we celebrate any holiday we have always had the family, gifts and a dinner. Not just any dinner but something really big and takes hours and sometimes days to get done. And all of this is just for one day. And at the end of that day everyone goes home and leaves the mess for you to clean up. And look at all the money we spend? It’s just horrible. Whatever happened to the days where people just came over and just visited you and then went home? And when will we just stop doing this and force someone else to take over?
Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy the big deal that goes into these one day events but the true meaning of these days are slowly dying just like the veterans. I saw a 110 year old veteran yesterday on the news and wondered if he is the only one left and what will happen when we don’t have anymore veterans to remember?

When we do celebrate these holidays why can’t we just do it the old fashioned way where people just get together and just visit? And then we can tell stories of our family members and learn some family history?
And have you realized that every year we always spend more money then we did the year before? And the gifts we are getting are more advance then that Tonka truck we got out three year old last year. And why do we have to spend money that we really don’t have and why is it we always have to get the next gadget? And why do we need a next level of the phones? What is wrong with the one you got 5 years ago? Doesn’t it work anymore? And who really cares if you are better then the Jones’s?
I think unless you have a lot of money you will never get what the other guy has and you will never be as cool as him. But then I am just happy that I know how to send a text message or remember a phone number.
Anyways I think that all the holidays are loosing their true meanings because we are not following what our ancestors did. Back then it was just people and family having coffee or a drink and then everyone went home and did their own thing like go to sleep.

Onto something else....

Have you noticed that it’s Christmas now? The music in the stores are now playing the classic Christmas songs and even people are putting up their Christmas lights and the are starting to be bought. I am done my shopping all I have left is to figure what to serve with the Turkey and do all my baking. But then Christmas is not the same as it once was either and neither is Hanukkah their true meanings have been lost for a lot of year and we only remember them when someone like grandma reminds us. But then when grandma is not with us anymore who takes over the true meaning and keeps telling the stories?
But these holidays are only about money and who gets the best next toy and that is about it. So if you had a great holiday then that means you got everything you have ever asked for and you are one up on the next guy. I wonder what would happen if there was no gifts? Would we still be happy with just the family being with us?
I think we have all just become really greedy and all we do is want and that is not right. My question is if you want something bad enough why does anyone else have to buy it for you? How do you know they can even afford it? And what if you don’t get it then what?
