Boomer bumbles along? in A small but passable life.

My new phone arrived by FedEx yesterday, just when I’d laid down for my afternoon nap. So I decided to just switch over then instead of later. Unboxed the new phone, figured out to insert new SIM card (there was a little pokey-tool in the box), transfer data from old phone to new phone via Bluetooth, go to BoostMobile website on new phone, enter phone serial number and new SIM card number three or four times (using my big magnifying glass to read them), giving up on the phone entry method and opening up my laptop and going to the website, entering the numbers three or four times again (this time able to copy and paste), watching nothing happen when I click next, finally using the chat help feature, finding out that I’d switched phone plans (when I ordered the new phone) and had now forgotten that the changes weren’t scheduled to happen until the 5th of November and that made my new phone incompatible with my old calling plan which was still valid (until November 5th). So, problem solved by chat person. I rated the experience a ten out of ten, said Thank You! and logged out.

That whole process only took about three hours. Which is about how long it took the last time I had to activate a new phone.

The new phone, a $50 CELERO 5G, is quite a bit bigger and heavier than the old $40 ZTE 3/4G LTE. 204 grams vs. 160 grams and about an inch longer and a half inch wider. It’s a bit much for a pocket in my shorts but fits in my leather fanny pack (a Boomer thing?) just fine.

Maybe I need to get one of those bright orange waterproof phone cases that come with a cord so you can hang it around your neck? Or is that too Gen Z?

Oh yeah, of course the new phone came with a proprietary charging cable which is only thirty-nine inches long.

Hopefully this phone will last until I’m too old and senile to deal with a phone at all.

The new WiFi router seems to be doing its thing.

And hopefully this will be the last tech upgrades for a good long while.

The 2022 Honda CB500X motorcycle is turning out rather difficult to track down. They may all be in containers on a cargo ship anchored off the West coast, apparently (they’re assembled in Thailand). I found a dealer who will take a $500 deposit to hold one whenever he gets ahold of one. And strangely, as of last week, there is no one else (at his dealership) waiting for one. He doesn’t know the MSRP of the 2022’s yet so we’re waiting on that before I put a deposit down.

So, hopefully, today’s nap won’t be interrupted.
