author: Chris Gardner

I never got to see the movie with Will Smith, but bought the book YEARS ago. Mr. Gardner's memoir is heartwrenching.

An amazingly smart man, quick learner in many different fields, Gardner had trouble getting his feet under him for various reasons. He tried different types of jobs, but without the college (and already in his mid to late twenties) he had to find SOMETHING to make enough money, challenge his brain in the right way in order to raise his son.

Due to circumstances with the boy's mother, he becomes homeless. That's hard enough to deal with alone, but when the mother returns and brings the boy, Gardner has to deal with being homeless AND raising his son.

The rest is history. He is an amazing success story. The book is a quick, uplifting read.
