Conundrums Abound in Everyday Ramblings

I love this picture I took last week. I was kind of saving it for the Autumn Equinox, which I understand we make a bigger deal about here than those of you in the Southern Hemisphere. But the rains are coming tonight and one of the main things I like is the light and that is in short supply now.

So, to celebrate the official onset of autumn a few days early…

Next week is the big ramp up into fall activities. I am getting my ears checked, my last year in warranty on my super expensive hearing aids. I watched a program Tuesday night on local pesticide use and regulation and we will have a League consensus call on that and I have more reading to do before then. I was happy to know that there are some amazing folks out there locally working to keep our water safe.

Then The Pullup Club starts, and I will begin to work with the gymnastics rings I have hanging from my pullup bar. And I am on another League of Women Voters committee. They are ramping up the national efforts as well as the local ones.

Because I have a couple of new people in the morning Open Practice, we have been doing the joint work as I originally envisioned the half hour to be, but Mrs. Sherlock wanted to continue working with weights. I added in a couple of informal half hour Zoom calls for that this week too. We are also using resistance bands.

That is plenty with my regular classes to keep me busy and out of trouble for the next four months until the holidays are over, and we are all re-evaluating how out in the world we can be in terms of the virus.

Plus, I need to scrounge up three more volunteer hours at the garden in the next six weeks and my columbine and tomato seedlings need to be potted on.

We do have the beach house for the Halloween weekend, and I am looking forward to that. Every time we get to go, I feel so grateful that we still can have this getaway. I love the cats with all my heart, but particularly since Diego became chronically ill getting away from them for just a couple of days a couple of times a year spells me so I have the resilience I need so I can deal with the bad days.

No surprise, I kind of overdid the activity a few days this week after getting the diagnoses from the doctor. I was so tired yesterday afternoon I crawled into bed as soon as all the commitments were complete and slept almost 11 hours.

I just have one more class to teach and then I am taking it easy tomorrow and am going over to the Sherlock’s for lunch on Sunday. I have these cool new tights and I have been wearing them in rotation during the classes so as not to repeat and I get to wear them today. It doesn’t take much to make me happy.

When I was digging in my closet for threads to put in recycling this week, I tried on a pair of tights that shouldn’t fit but do, and a pair of yoga pants that should fit but oh so don’t. Am I imagining that one used to be able to count on sizing more before than lately?

I have mentioned here before that I signed on for this hour and a half weekly Business of Yoga Call a year ago. Three weeks of the month I watch it on replay because it directly conflicts with my flagship class. It is these two guys, business partners, one a yoga teacher, and one a musician and composer of children’s music for television and does a regular crazy karaoke thing.

There were a bunch of us at the beginning but now it has dwindled to three participants besides them, and they want to re-imagine what they are doing and are asking for collaboration. These are the guys I felt were talking down to me months ago. Neither of them has any professional business or traditional communications background.

They talk over each other, they argue, they make stupid jokes, they pontificate, they are not the best listeners and yet their hearts are in the right place. Having a brother close to me in age growing up made me realize that I had to interrupt and argue back to get a word in edgewise. It is exhausting.

But I learn stuff, useful stuff, and they give me perspective and who the heck else am I going to talk to about all this? Everyone is so focused on social media, and we don’t.

I am thinking…thinking…where do I want to go with this?
Conundrums abound.
