Beauty - 5/24/2005

         "Beauty" by Luke Daley

        Beauty is a special thing
        So many seem to chase
It turns many a pocket bare
        Dejects many a face

To many its a lifelong goal
        They never seem to find
The gold the mirror nearly shows
        Is fools-gold of the mind

To many beauty is a face
        Symmetric, clear & fair
A demure poise, a daint hand
        A golden wave of hair

The draping layers of a gown
        Shoe-tips peeking through
The flash of pendants hung on ears
        A gaudy, screaming hue

Rows of bottles line the wall
        Of different shape and size
        Endless potions, powders, creams
        For noses, lips & eyes

Beauty it would seem, to most
        Is something sold & bought
        The almighty dollar whispers lies
        Vanity is sought

This beauty is a hteful thing
        It tears the mind apart
        Is beauty only found inside
        The breaking of a heart?

        Vanity's grip can never show
        The dollar never tell
        Real beauty is outside ourselves
        Away from Glamorous hell

The unfurling of a flower bright
        The sun shining on dew
A crystal sea where dolphins play
        When skies are deepest blue

Deserts where the red sand burns
        The heat-wave rivers flow
        Mountains growing into air
        Watching earth below

White horses dancing on the plain
        Like wave-caps flecked with foam
The wind blowing across your face
        When sunset calls you home

A newborn calf on tiny legs
        His mother by his side
The moon on silver waters still
        Lifting the rising tide

        Beautiful are things we find
In earth, in sky, in sea
Beauty does not lie skin deep
        It sets tired spirits free

Beauty is in the world around
Each small thing plays its role
        The mirror maims
        Fears selfish flames
        Man's 'beauty' chains the soul

The poem on the right is Luke's favourite poem.  Rightfully so!  It's awesome!!

Notes: --------------------------------------------------------------------

claps Bravo. Bravo. I ordinarily tell people straight to their face when they write shit, so this means a lot, believe me. Bravo. [Ness] 5/24/2005 9:47:37 AM

Oh, I say! I do believe I've made first note. And second! Dare I try third?

...

Naw. I'll leave it for someone else. [Ness] 5/24/2005 9:48:35 AM

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

RYN: OOOOH< you should listen everything by Rufus, anything is good. (the bestsongs are: dinner at eight, oh what a world, i don't know what it is, 14th street, the art teacher, cruising...) ah, man, all of his songs are great.

wow...I'm definately not a poetry person, but that is one awesome poem. Did your boyfriend Luke right it? I definately agree with some parts of its message...I especially liked the dollar and vanity stanza, quite neat [Interpreter of Life] 5/24/2005 5:15:32 PM

that was a very good poem. :)

RYN: yeah I love you too, i love most of my australian OD friends. Melbourne definitely had a lasting effect on me - and then there was Noel, who I didn't meet there (but I should've, see last paragraph of my entry) but is from there; and a ton of stuff reminds me of him or his sister Noni or their mum Robin. You should definitely go to Melbourne! Ooo better idea... 5/24/2005 5:27:00 PM

... if you decide not to go, then you HAVE to go when I get enough money to go back there. Which'll probably be next spring... er... i mean autumn? yeah anyways I'm done with uni Winter Quarter so by my Spring I'll be able to go back there. And I can show you around, and you'll know someone - even if we haven't met in person. But yeah you should just go now, since you've been talking about going. 5/24/2005 5:29:55 PM

lol. okay enough notes from me. hope your holidays go well. take care! ♥

[~Tiffany~] 5/24/2005 5:30:37 PM

hey...i liked that, it was really well-written, subtly powerful (if that even exists?:P) and has a great flow to it. tell luke good on 'im!:P hope ur keepin well. enjoy ur 3 mths of winter!:) [dysfunctional_faerie] 5/26/2005 7:31:35 AM

That really is a great poem, and like someone said before me, I too am not a huge poetry fan, and therefore I am more critical of everything that deals with poetry. I do have to say your boyfriend can write well.. Tell him to keep up the good work, because writing is the one thing that no one can attack.

Writing is the way of life.. tell him to own it for me.
