not giving a shit about the Oscars
imagine no longer pretending to give a fuck
about who the rich pretty people vote as their
prom queen and king this year on the television screen
because they’re all either preening assholes or
at the very best
spaced-out flakes completely detached from reality
flitting through spates of deep navel-gazing sessions
with no idea what the hell’s happening on this planet
because they haven’t bought their own milk in two decades

imagine
it doesn’t have to be the Oscars
if you honestly like them, enjoy the piss out of them
but just imagine not having to care
about any arbitrary social rituals
just caring about the things you
actually desire to care about

you don’t like football?
you don’t have to watch the Super Bowl!
not even the fucking commercials!
don’t do it just to have something
to talk about with passing acquaintances
talk about what you care about

there are things that are mandatory
to care about in this life
on this damned little rock
within this damned species
like not being a dick to each other
working together and loving each other
respecting and helping those around you

but if you don’t wanna watch
the Friends reunion on your phone
you don’t have to watch those
insipidly boring pasty fucks
just because of some mad
implied social contract
fuck Friends
fuck their impossible apartments
fuck their bland attractiveness
yes, even the monkey
fuck them all
or if you actually dig it?
enjoy the hell out of it

and not faking it
just to fit in
just to have
something
safe
to talk about
