Quietudeness? in A small but passable life.

I finished reading “Devoted” by Dean Koontz.

I’ve found about four inches of rain in my rain gauge in the month of July. That was more rain than the whole last two years or more.

The grocery bill for July was $110. Broke the budget by $10. I guess it was the Lay’s BBQ chips, Fritos and the Oreos that did it. Need more discipline. Instacart is still working great. Two orders a month, at least $35 but not more than $100 for both.

I had to switch internet providers. The Dish wired by coax through the park was cancelled. I heard about Jabba from a friend and signed up. It is DSL through the phone line. 10Mbps download at $29.95 a month. The old was about the same or a little better speed, when it worked and $34.99 a month. I’m still waiting on Starlink. I put my $99 down months ago after being selected for the waiting list.

Today will be the 62nd day this year over 100 degrees. Normal.

I had to throw away two pairs of my old cotton gym shorts. I’m thinking they were about thirty years old? The elastic in the waistband was shot and the material was getting thin. I got tired of untying and tying the string every time I needed to take a leak. But guess what? Those were the black and dark blue ones, but I had bought three pair at the same time and I had put the gray pair back. And now I’m wearing brand new gray shorts!

(Just got a text message. Maria R. shopping for Instacart is now shopping for my order.)

There was another senseless stupid tragedy Friday. A woman flew out here from Boston to meet a local dude. They went for a hike on Camelback Mountain, a very popular trail. She turned back on the way up. He continued on. He made it back to the car. She didn’t. They found her hours later curled up and dead next to a house. It was 106 degrees that day.

I’ve set my personal boundary for hiking out here at 75 degrees. Daughter agrees with me after we did that 12.6 miles at 75 degrees. We had went through three liters of water apiece and could have brought more. We had also stopped at a water source and refilled and cameled up.

Why do boys not want to wrestle, as in organized sports programs, with girls? It’s obvious but never mentioned. Boners. Secondary is embarrassment of losing to a girl.

Daughter called last night. She said that society is definitely breaking down where she’s at. She’s working at a Dollar General store where she has a front row seat. She says things are getting crazy.

(Maria R. just texted and said her Instacart card didn’t authorize so I guess I’ve got to go sort that out.)
