Shopping, new skates! in Diary

I've now been to roller derby twice and I think I'm hooked so today I've been shopping!
The fact that the helmet and skates are purple is just a coincidence as it just happens to be the best colour. They're the ones I wanted and that's the colour the shop had in stock, win! Also, the team I train with has purple has their colour, double win!
The Wednesday session is their fitness and endurance session, whereas Sunday is all about improving skills. They don't call it endurance for nothing, my legs were like jelly by the end. But I think I'm improving already; I'm already going faster than I was when I started my first session, I can sort of lean around corners and glide on one foot briefly. We had a few minutes where we had to skate, then fall down flat when the whistle was blown, before getting up again as fast as we could and carry on skating. Oh boy that was hard work, I was knackered after that.
Another thing we had to practice was what they call pyramids, where we find a partner and push them round the track, then they push you, then you pull. That was also hard work, but it builds up strength and helps to get used to skating close to people.
Driving home was a nightmare, I could hardly lift my leg to get my feet on the pedals and then struggled to get out of the car. I thought I would be in agony the next morning, but surprisingly I wasn't. I think it helped that I did stretches before going to bed and again in the morning, but weirdly, it's my biceps that have been aching.
Next session tomorrow :o)
We went out last night for Jay's mam's 60th birthday. We booked a taxi so I could have a drink, and it's a two mile journey so should have taken about 10 minutes. Only it took over half an hour because the taxi driver didn't know where he was going and was taking us in completely the wrong direction! He looked horrified when we gave him £4, like he was expecting us to pay for the entire journey. We told him it should have only been two miles and he was incredulous, like we were lying. Yeah whatever mate, you can't fleece us.
They bought her some garden furniture, which isn't very exciting but apparently it's what she wanted. I got her a bottle of perfume after noticing a bottle in her bathroom that was almost empty, and she seemed very pleased to have a replacement :o)
There's something wrong with my female zebra finch. She seems to have lost the power of flight and spends all her time on the cage floor. I've put a perch as close to the floor as I can and, if she manages to get onto it, she's fine then. But struggles to even get up. I've even made her a carboard staircase to try and help her up, but isn't intelligent enough to use it :o( I went and bought her some egg food today with loads of vitamins in it, I hope it helps.

Glad you are enjoying roller derby!

Pyramids are my favourite! Coffins are a bitch though. I desperately need to get a new helmet and skates but I am resisting until we know if I can get pregnant or not - if not I am going to MEGA SPLURGE

Hmmm, I haven't heard of coffins before, but after your comment, I'm not looking forward to it, lol.
I was wondering about getting pregnant as it's something I want to do shortly, I suppose you would have to stop derby pretty much right away.
Do you bout often? I don't remember reading any entries where you talk about it. Did you have to change teams when you moved?

I'm so crap at writing in here.
Coffins are the thing where you lay on the floor then get up!
I haven't bouted with a team yet, I played a couple of closed door scrims with Cardiff and then have done the same with North Wales (yep I changed teams!) and had my first mixed open scrim last week and have another tomorrow. I really should write more, I feel like I want to document this stuff.
I think I would carry on skating if I get pregnant, but would avoid contact after 3 months or so. I wouldn't scrim, but i would be happy to do contact drills in training cause it's more controlled and you know people. I think it's different when you're learning though and people are more unpredictable

Could your zebra finch be egg bound?
Bomb Shell Babe In Toyland ⋅ May 11, 2014
No, the symptoms are completely different. She's quite lively, but she just can't fly or jump very high. Sometimes she falls onto her back and can't get back up again :o(
