I decided to head down to Sydney on a roadtrip with Vish and his boyfriend. I decided that I'd probably only be sitting around the house on my days off anyway, so decided to live a little. I'd never actually driven there before, and I didn't even have to drive.
I finished work at 1am that morning (Tuesday), and they wanted to leave by 4am, to beat traffic. Fair enough. So I didn't even bother sleeping. I pretty much went home, packed a few things and grabbed my pillow (with the intention of sleeping in the car). Vish didn't sleep at all either, but his boyfriend got about an hour in before we finally left around 4:30am.
The trip wasn't all that bad. We made a lot of pit-stops on the way though, so the normal 10-hour drive to Sydney took us more like 13.5 hours lol. We'd stopped in Byron Bay for breakfast, and then Coffs Harbour for lunch. Even stopping in Port Macquarie for coffee haha. I think we were all so tired.
I only nodded off once or twice though, so probably around 1.5 hours all up. Not bad for being awake for the previous 32 hours or so. I took quite a few pics on my way down.
It was nice to have done that. I've always flown to and from Sydney, and never by vehicle. We arrived in Sydney a little after 6pm the same day. We were saying in Kirribilli down there. It was small, but SO close to the harbour it was crazy. Only a short walk, and the weather was perfect :)
They took me to Manly one day. I was stunned at how awesome it was! It was like the Gold Coast, but much bigger, well that's how I saw it anyway.
Vish took a photo of me eating lol
We went across the harbour and back on the ferry a few times. It was SO nice.
Nearly had a heart-attack when I saw how much they wanted for a slice of tart or cake.
I use this app to combine photos into grids. Just makes things easier sometimes.
The trip wasn't without drama of course, but it wasn't to do with me. It was a family trip for Vish and let's just say things didn't go too well and huge arguments in a language other than English occured.
We took his sister out shopping on Thursday night though, so that was something. It's like she lives under a rock or something when it comes to gay people. She kept asking me and James ignorant, almost patronising questions. You know, the usual "Why did you choose to be gay?" and questions along those lines. It was more okay for James as Vish is his boyfriend, but because I'm single, she didn't understand why I couldn't just get a girlfriend. I understand in her Indian culture it'd be hard to understand, but really, woman? You live in SYDNEY!
I did find it ironic when we went into Myer, the guy in the fragrance section was as camp as a row of tents. He even had The Beat keyring, the same as I have, and I flashed him my pink Fluffy membership card. He wanted to know how I got it and I told him. As we moved on in the store, I said to her, "See! Gay people everywhere!"
By the final day, I was so OVER driving back and forth between the apartment and Rosehill. I had a bad vibe about the place she lived in, or moreso the people who were in there. She was very lovely though and cooked us dinner the first few nights, but I really couldn't handle anymore Indian food. I really couldn't. I even noticed on myself that my sweat started to smell like Indian! I know that sounds stupid, but I swear it's true. And between all the drama and arguing in another language, I was pretty over it. You can't really tune out as much when one of your friends is crying. I can't anyway.
I didn't even go with them on the third day, and just stayed around the apartment. The stupid thing is, I couldn't really leave or anything, as I didn't have a key to get back in etc. I was chatting to quite a few friendly guys on Grindr in the area, but I didn't meet up with anyone all trip.
I took a special liking to this one guy when I was at the airport heading back to Brisbane. Everything about him just seemed crazy unreal, but then again I never got to meet anyone in person, so who knows.
I had a great time, and I am glad to be home. That 1 hour flight home was so much more convenient than the 13.5 hour drive there, but they were each fun in their own ways.
Back to work tonight. Loving these public holidays.
