Here it comes! in A small but passable life.

Today was our first 100 degree day of the year. Exactly 100 degrees. Last year it happened in April. And that was the first of 145 days over 100 degrees last year.
I did an Instacart order yesterday. It ended up being $67.20. I don’t know if the prices are rising or I just had to order more. I use the “buy again” tab mostly and don’t look at the prices. I’ve also kept all the shopping lists I’ve wrote this year so I can keep stocked up. I rarely venture into new foods territory. There is still food in the pantry and frig that Mom preferred but I don’t. I’ve been tossing it out as it expires. I found two packets of pink salmon that expired in 2019.
Daughter still remembers the apartment in the city. For the ten years we lived there the shelves and frig were mostly empty because the grocery store was only two blocks away. When we got hungry we’d walk to the store. And purchases were limited by how much we wanted to carry. Whoever carried the gallon of milk didn’t have to carry everything else. We both thought that was fair.
My fourteen days wait after the second Moderna shot is up tomorrow. I’ll be heading to the pool for my much needed exercise and sun. I think I stopped going last September when it started getting crowded with the returning snowbirds.
I’m also going to turn off the water heater since I’ll be showering at the pool. Kinda stupid heating water 24/7 just to wash a few dishes every other day. I’ve washed dishes in the river many, many days so using the not-so-cold water coming out of the tap here will be fine.
It’s been over a year since my last haircut (by Nikki) and nearly that long since a beard trim. I’m thinking maybe tomorrow I’ll trim my beard and shave my head. Well, not naked shave but the #2 gauge on the beard trimmer. I’ve never attempted that before.
Mom is not here to bitch EVERY DAY that I need a haircut. Kinda defeats the purpose of looking like Beetlejuice now. (Never mind the growing bald patch and the grey!)
Anyway, I need to find something for supper. It is hard to get motivated without having to cook for someone else. Even though now I’m mostly back to my usual one meal a day, twenty-four hour daily fast.
