Affordable housing in keeping it postive

If you want to live in Manhattan lately, you either have to be rich, or be ready to double (and triple) up. Many large apartments are $3000 a month rent... and UP!
The current mayor has decided that he will establish more affordable housing. But from WHERE? I discovered the other day.
Across the street from the post office is a school that's been vacant (and growing trees) for about 50 years. It's going to be converted into housing. I am SO glad. The building is old - at least 75 years - so there's a LOT of work to do. But with those lovely high ceilings and solid walls, it should be a great place to live. The subway is two blocks away; the supermarket is around the corner; the post office is across the street going one direction, the library is down the block if you leave the building on the downtown side. There's a huge yard... I wonder what THAT'LL be.
I am heart happy to learn of this change.
