Actually, let’s start with humor first. You know how I’ve got a big ol’ weakness for legs. Like… stockings and a skirt could be considered my Kryptonite? My appreciation of the following comic proves that I have a significant and twisted problem:
Now, after that....
I woke up to see that my Trump Worshiping HYPER-Conservative classmate in Texas had been busy the night before attempting to troll anyone who dared post a “Factual Response” to any “Pro Trump Misinformation Article.” Le Sigh. But it shows me absolutely what the Trump Worship Mindset is.
She was out there posting hundreds of times but essentially EVERY SINGLE POST can be summarized as follows:
Such bullshit that the party that gleefully murders millions of unborn babies has the audacity to claim they care about 200,000 COVID deaths. YOU monsters are the ones that politicize the value of human life! Trump has done the best job of any President in dealing with a pandemic. So shut the fuck up!
Then I come to work where my boss, victim witness coordinator, and paralegal all pile on the Trump praise bullshit. One of my favorites....
There is a “Vote Joni Ernst” commercial that starts with “Theresa Greenfield’s Nancy Pelosi approved Far Left Wing healthcare scheme will remove you from your private insurance.” Which is only true in Iowa if you were affected by the State’s prior attempts to privatize goddamned everything in the health care world. Which translates the commercial into “Theresa Greenfield’s Healthcare Law will attempt to make healthcare cost less per individual while securing healthcare for all.”
Then the “Vote Theresa Greenfield” commercial starts with “Joni Ernst has repeatedly voted to privatize medicare and cut social security. She even penned a bill that would remove 1 in every 3 Iowans from their insurance.” And… that is verifiable. She is a co-writer on a bill that would effectively remove 33% of all Iowans from their current health care plan. THE BIGGER ISSUE is that, much like Trump, there’s no “after” on that. It isn’t “remove 1/3 of people and do something to help. Which translates the commercial into “Joni Ernst’s Healthcare Law removes 1/3 of Iowans from their health care plan in an attempt to make healthcare more profitable and less accessible.”
AND YET the squawk around the office is all “Damned Left Wing Extremists and their healthcare”. UGH.
Then about two hours of court… where I showed up. The defendants showed up. But the lawyers didn’t. Grumble.
Then we found out the bad news. Victoria’s mother has been fighting cancer since last year. Now, Victoria and her mother don’t get along but… you can tell she still cares about her mom. Well, her Mom is in one of those wonderful mid-west states where they keep thinking COVID is a hoax. So, Victoria’s Mom doesn’t behave responsibly. And was diagnosed with COVID over the weekend. Well… she got the phone call today. Her mom stopped breathing and is being rushed to the ER. I know she’s worried. I know this is all the more difficult because Remus isn’t here. And I know I can’t be the ‘strong, comforting man that swoops in and takes care of things’ because that isn’t my role. Which is honestly good for me. I need to really start embracing the idea that I’m not a Super Hero that has to save everyone I care about. I just… have to be there, offer my support, and lend a hand when asked. And that’s all I can do. So… I’ve let her know I’m available to help with the kids in anyway should she need to go make an emergency visit. Essentially… offering to babysit without saying the words. And I know Essen is here to provide support and help, too. THOUGH Essen’s situation is escalating as well. She had to call my officers in to remove her husband last night as he refused to leave for two hours.
SO… two of my three closest friends in a 50 mile radius are both off to having a helluva week.
As for me, I’m going to try to head out of work early. Got everything for today already taken care of. And I could stand to pick up my new glasses and get some errands done. Still need to from Friday.
