The order with the fountain pen, ink cartridges and leather journal was due on the 26th. It arrived yesterday. The other two, one with the camp stove, the Bukowski book, the drip coffee thingy, and the campstove windscreen which was due tomorrow and the one with the briefcase also due on the 26th arrived this morning on the same truck. So yeah, very pleased with the speed of ordinary free delivery.

Say what you want about amazon, but all my experiences have been positive.

The Hono Dian Forest Series fountain pen works perfectly. I’ll need to get used to the diameter and weight of it since it is a skinny steel bodied pen. And of course I need to pay attention to the angle of writing and the way the tip needs to be facing on the paper.

The KomalC buffalo leather briefcase is a beast. Solid and heavy (4.14lbs.) with really good hardware. It is wide (the bottom is a square 5”X16”) so it does hold my 15 1/2” laptop in its padded Case Logic sleeve. The inside is lined with what looks and feels like a medium weight canvas. I’m really impressed with the craftsmanship.

Also, it was $83.29 with tax and free shipping. It may not have the 100 year warranty of the Saddleback I was looking at but it is over $500 cheaper.

The Coleman camp stove is the single burner $35 butane fueled one. It comes in a plastic case. I thought I’d give it a try. I believe the fuel cannisters are $2.97 apiece at walmart. The reviews on fuel consumption were anywhere from 1 to 3 days per canister. That tells me I could probably do a week. The green canisters would last me a week with that other Coleman single burner at $5 a pop. And my Optimus Crux backpacking stove uses the other type of cannister per week at about $5 a pop. So, this new stove will be the new car/base camping stove and we’ll see how it performs. I left the single burner with the van and my backpacking stove won’t handle a cast iron skillet, at least not safely. So we’ll see.

And now I’m done spending. I may still shop, but I really can’t think of any more superfluous items to purchase.

And now I’ve got a Bukowski book to read.

How’s the weather, you ask? Another week of triple digit highs predicted.
