God Bless Me, Doctor

God bless me, doctor
I am feeling a keen sort of dread
See, I woke up this morning
Breathing short and haggard
Full of pain and regret

God bless me, doctor
I am feeding this monster
That lives within my head
Without a way to silence her
I know how this song ends

God bless me, doctor
I am stealing motives from the sins
Got trapped in my favorite bad way
This old lock box of memories
Built to break me when I bend

Oh, dear God, bless me, doctor!
I want to surrender
From your false shelter
That is more prison
Than a friend
I got lost in my best way
And I believed in you
Wanted to believe
You are truth, well,
I am here to promise you
That won’t happen
Ever again
