Insight with Tulips and Cat in Everyday Ramblings

We had a break in the rain for part of the day today and the light has been shifting throughout from drizzle and heavy cloud cover to glorious sunbreaks and blue sky. The tulips are just coming in. I’ve had so much fun shooting tulips in the residential neighborhood by the yoga studio and in my own.
I am very very picky about what pictures I truly like that I take but when this cat in a window turned toward me I had a pretty good idea I was going to like this one. You can see it here full sized in a link to the Noko blog.
Today I finished my six-week Yoga for Hormone Therapy workshop. We did the complete practice all together today. It just fascinates me. Moving energy around the body takes concentration and a very specific type of movement and focus. I can’t even describe it. Throughout there is this quite energetic “bellows” breath called Bhastrika that I knew about but had never practiced outside of a few classroom sessions before.
It is a wonderful tool for building energy.
We also use this weird sounding wheezing breath to activate the thyroid. The focus is on the ovaries, thyroid and pituitary glands and also all the energy centers or chakras as they are called. It is pretty wo wo. :)
I am so glad I took this workshop. It was a fluke. I only took it because I wanted to take some classes and get new ideas and she was teaching it right before my Sunday class. This is the first time she has taught the sequence since her certification so it was sort of learn by doing for all of us.
Next up for Continuing Ed for me is a certification to teach seniors yoga in October. It is an expensive workshop but one of the teachers wrote the neck and shoulder book I use and recommend. I am intrigued by gait and balance and how they change as we age.
Next weekend, other than teaching my public classes I am completely free. Yippee.
My one beloved regular student had a facelift about six weeks ago. She has been fascinated by the idea for many many years. She is in my Women’s Circle and I have known her for at least 13 years. It was a horrible experience for her, really difficult. She had blood clots and could have died. In retrospect she feels like she was seduced by the myth of beauty and can’t really understand why she did it.
She says her face doesn’t feel like her face.
She does look “better” in a traditional sense. Clearly the surgeon did a good job now that the swelling is down and everything is starting to heal well. But she spent thousands and thousand of dollars on this and is asking herself what exactly was it all for. It is a most interesting journey to witness.
I adore her and that makes it easy not to judge her choices.
I am just glad she is okay and I get such a kick out of working with her and watching her completely relax at the end of class.
With tulips and white cats and rain squalls and insight into the power of self-transformation it is one rich life I have going here.
A happy one even in the midst of fretting and frustration.
