I just can’t get a break.

I thought I’d be okay today as I am in court. Y’know… not that being required to be in open court is a SAFE place what with MID outbreak; but I figured at least I’d be safe from the Alt-Right Pro-Militarization bullshit. But nope!! FIRST THING!

Our Domestic Violence Advocate is bitching about proposed policy proposals on #DefundPolice. Because… apparently… the idea of not imprisoning all drug criminals is offensive to him. Because… apparently… the idea of notfilling our schools with police officers is offensive to him. Because… apparently… the idea of increasing funding for mental health and treatment is offensive to him. Because… apparently… the idea that NOT all people charged with a criminal offense should be in jail is offensive to him.

Ladies and Gentlemen… this is one of the reasons why The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight encouraged “Liberal Voters” to do something uncomfortable. Due to our current voting system… these particular people, the people worshiping Trump in the MidWest… have more power per vote than the people of Los Angeles or New York or your “Liberal Enclaves.” This is why the majority of the population can be Democrat; but the Republicans still win. Because the way the system is rigged? It isn’t how many people a voting block has; but how much land. So when there are 7,544.6 people per square mile… compared to 459.3 per square mile.... those 459 votes are equal in power to those 7,444 votes. So who has more sway? It’s the one dude, sitting on 32 acres of land, who thinks (direct quote) “These damned hippies are trying to take over!”

Frankly, it is one of the (many) reasons why I feel like it is a responsibility to stay put and fight for change, fight for better (even though it drives me fucking crazy!). Because I’m not happy with the idea of an 80 year old farmer that’s never been outside of Iowa… angry at “Mexicans” and “Criminal Loving Liberals”… making such a significant impact on our political world. Even if I am a tiny voice under attack shouting into the darkness… we can’t just throw our hands up and quit. Though… honestly… I will say… if Trump wins a second term?? I may revise that statement. In truth? I may begin to look at expatriating or getting the fuck out of the US. That isn’t as hyperbolic as it may seem. I am third generation American. Even if it means slumming it by being Hotel Staff, I could stand to go back to Bermuda or Norway!
