Silence. in A small but passable life.

The window to my little room has been open 24/7 for a few weeks now. The thermometer in my atomic clock reads from 68 degrees at 8am to maybe 77 to 80 by sundown. And what I’ve noticed is the lack of white noise from the freeway which is maybe a quarter mile away. Add to that the fact that the RV park where I live has emptied of the snowbirds and it makes for a more than usual feeling of a ghost town.
All the facilities are still closed. Including the swimming pool and shower room.
When riding my bicycle to go check the mail in the afternoon I see small groups of resident oldsters gathered under carports. Four, six, or even eight or more people just circled around shooting the shit like any other normal non-pandemic day.
The last trip to the grocery store I noticed the mask wearing non-mask wearing ratio was about 50/50. And there was no visible sign of social distancing. I wore my cloth mask but then found that the cashier and the young gal bagging my groceries were not wearing a mask or gloves.
Mom has received her $1200 deposit. Mine hasn’t showed up yet. I had to do the non-filer thing on the IRS website. Now the IRS knows where I reside. I haven’t filed a tax return since 2009. Or was it 2008?
Anyway, I have noticed what is not happening in the world. Millions of humans are not protesting in the streets like they were. Millions of humans are not on the move because of war, famine or climate change like they were. All the petty little wars seem to be sputtering out. And hopefully, most people are starting to realize that the jig may be up, finally. And that now maybe, somehow, a better system will be realized.
Opinions on what the world will look like after this pandemic is over are numerous, and meaningless. I’m sure it will be like nothing anyone imagined.
Who imagined the current state of affairs? Apparently no one did. Hence the mess that now exists.
If and when I do get the $1200 I think I’m going to upgrade my backpacking tent to a Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2. (I just checked REI. It now $100 off the normal price!) That should be the last of the backpacking upgrades. I know, I keep saying that.
I’m waiting on a book I had to order at the library. In the meantime I’ve been slogging through that philosophy tome again.
So yeah, nothing new here.
