Over the years, I've collected food items - either I had a desire for them in the store, or I got them somehow... and never used them up.
My goal is to use up what's there. I can NOT throw them out.
So... in my steel cut oats, I place a small amount of jelly - the little packets that come with your toast when you eat breakfast in a restaurant. It's just enough to have a taste surprise with the oatmeal.
On my potatoes I add a small packet of Mrs. Dash - a combination of herbs and spices to substitute for salt. I never add salt anyway, so it's just added flavor.
Yesterday I wanted something hot to drink - but was tired of tea and wasn't up for soup... ah, miso soup. I had a double cup (my mug holds about 14 ounces). Perfect - salty, tasty, filling.
I wonder what other surprises are lurking back there. I will not buy any more tea, till what I have is finished... yeah, right.

I think some of these items are there for more than 3 months!!
Instead of instant breakfast, I use oatmeal drink, FrescAvena, and add my instant coffee to it. All in one...breakfast on the run.

I have been making food based on what I can find recently too. It's fun :)
