the new normal in poetry

the new normal is the realization
that there never was a normal
there never could’ve been a normal
there will never a normal for us
again and that its for the best

the normal is a comforting destructive lie
like conspiracy theories about cell towers
like con-men hawking expired malaria drugs
like churches meeting as God will protect
masses petri-dishes resurrecting plagues

the normal is gone
tomorrow is imaginary
so are all yesterdays
good riddance, normal
there is only here
there is only us
there is only what
we can do for each
other here and now
