so. as i’ve probably mentioned. i’m not of portugese or greek descent. sorry. to have mislead people. no that was ancestry. com’s fault. i thought i was and then. on the website that changed according to my mom.
so. last wk. i learned that my 3rd great grandmother. yes she came over from ireland. but a. she came over in 1853 not 1861 like we thought. and 2. she came over w/ her one surviving son and. her first husband who. in the u.s. er. i mean we think she came to. maybe it was kentucky? yeah so her first husband edward. died there. and by ‘there’ i mean kentucky. not back in ireland. see we thought he’d died back in ireland. or something about kentucky. [oh all her other children. had d. from the potato famine. which researchers think. the bugs who ate all the potato crops came from mexico.].
she met her second husband a german immigrant, Phillip. in...........um ohio. which we think. means that. she my ancestor Ann. walked from ky to ohio. as she wouldn’t’ve had the money for another form of transportation. or maybe she was already living in ohio at the time. we think she might’ve worked in someone’s house as a housekeeper or maybe a launderwoman like in Magdelene......we’re not really sure. i was thinking she sold flowers but that’s more what children did. and that was in london during the great war so. or maybe she worked in the kitchen...........those are our guesses. oh we think she came through canada or new york or philedelphia. and that well. we thought that yrs. ago her mother’s name was Bridget. but now we know the last name was ‘Cannon’. just like the camera co. [we’re not related to the camera co. people. that’s just how i remember it.]. so Bridget would’ve been............my 4th great grandmother.
she had a hard life. Ann, that is. well most immigrants did. her children died..........her first husband died. then she remarried yay. to a successful farmer. Phillip, the german immigrant. then 2 of their children died, age 8 and 10. so. yeah wow.
but the irish at the time. were a step above um. people of color. in jamaica in 1655 [and thankfully my irish ancestors came over after] it was the irish. who were um..........well workers, to put it vaguely. for the jamaicans. yes just like during the civil war. the british had brought the irish over. on ships apparently. interesting fact: the irish. ate seaweed to survive. which apparently there was also some growing in ireland. sorry. they drank it i mean. well as well as jamaica. people think seaweed is this new thing when actually............it’s not.
um so yeah.
