precious now in poetry

Who you were is not who you are is not who you will be.
You are a process in motion, you have been in flux from
the first quickening of your heart to your very last breath.
It’s okay, you couldn’t change that even if you wanted to.
Go forward. Even if it’s just a little bit. Make progress.
Don’t let anyone tell you that if you don’t risk a giant leap
with high odds of disaster you’re not improving at all. That is
a great way to stop completely. Keep moving a little forward,
keep going. I believe in you. It’s so much like a sage smudge,
this mayfly brief life, flowing into mist as causality and
entropy conspire to blow us all away and yet, too, the smell
of it so sweet for that precious little while, precious now.
