So in an effort to remind myself why what is happening is necessary, instead of pondering the question marks of the future that may make the decisions of today look like poor work… I am reviewing the actions of yesterday that make the decisions of today look necessary.

Just two that spring to mind:

Dinner.
Too often, we would be eating dinner and the TV would be on. The TV would be set to a show specifically selected by Martha. And yet, she would still spend the entire meal on her bloody cell phone. Texting, cruising the net, playing cell phone games. It’s like… this is dinner. We can eat in silence. Eat and have a conversation. Eat and watch the television. There are so many options and you’re choosing to spend.... even more (gd) time on the friggin phone. Absolute child.

Hawaii.
This is one that… will stay with me for a long time.
All Expenses Paid Luxury Trip to Paradise. And getting her to go at all was like pulling teeth. Then when we get there? A lovely and beautiful trip. House ON THE BEACH… sea turtles sunning themselves in the backyard! And a free luxury romantic anniversary dinner. All the stops pulled out, a lovely trip, romance and adventure… an experience worth remembering. And yet for the entire trip… no “i love you”, no physical closeness, no emotional closeness, no sex… I mean… yeah. A wonderful trip and I’m glad we took it! But one imagines that most other married couples who go on such an Anniversary Trip at least say I love you and/or re-connect with each other and/or maybe have a sexual encounter.

So yeah. Instead of worrying about the things that cannot be predicted, find truth in the things that have already happened.
