Only 14 more working days left. For the most part I’m excited, looking forward to retirement and traveling and more free time. On the other hand, I’m a bit sad I’ve been at my job for 37 years. It feels good to know something that well. It’s probably the last think I will ever feel expert at. I kind of wish I had the opportunity to finish out the 40 years and even more wish I could have worked there until I was Medicare age. I spent all this week shopping for health care insurance on the marketplace. I had gotten some quotes from an agent but just wondered how much it would be for BCBS. I googled it on my phone and a form popped up that my phone filled out for me. I immediately started getting calls and they were all very aggressive and pushy. I did find out that BCBS would be 3 times more expensive, so I went with Aetna that my agent recommended. I hope I made the right decision. I’m all signed up but that has not stopped me getting calls. 60 the first day, 30 the next I don’t know how they can get away with it Feels like harassment to me.

I’m thinking alot about what trips I want to take in my retirement. I definitely want to go to Utah for a bit. In February or March, I want to go somewhere warm. I want to go to Tampa to see the Big Cat Rescue, but I also want to lay on the beach or by a pool, and I’ve heard it’s not quite warm enough to do that in Florida in March. If I’m already in Florida, I would also want to see the Everglades and the Hemingway House in Key West. One of my cousins told me Key West is not worth visiting but he’s a racist red neck so I don’t know if his opinion and my opinion of Key West would be the same.

Then for a big probably once in a lifetime trip I want to go to England. Things I for sure want to do is one to two days in London seeing the sights, and then Bath to see the Jane Austen house, and I would also like to go to one of the islands. I wonder if you can find Jersey cows still in Jersey. :)

Did Key West earlier this year.

Make sure you stay on the old part of town because that's where all the stuff you want to see is......... Also, stay in one of the old hotels that has been re-upped.

Yay for England and you KNOW I totally recommend Bath and Jane Austen!! AND London. An island would be really fun too.

My best friend went to Key West when she was doing a travel nurse assignment in Florida quite a few years ago, and really liked it. She loved the Hemingway house and cats.

I think the choices of insurance and plans and the non-stop nagging from the companies could drive you completely insane. We are VERY lucky in that we can keep our workplace insurance for the same price we were paying before retirement (that’s been discontinued now, so really really REALLY lucky) and even so my husband is CONSTANTLY getting calls and mail about plans. He turned 65 in June so went on Medicare and that is even worse with the nagging and calls, even though he has a plan and doesn’t need anything else. We had BSBC through the university for years, and they have just changed to Aetna. From what I’ve heard it’s a really good move so hopefully that’s true!
